Welcome to the Student Support Fund Service

The Student Support Fund Service administers the Access to Learning Fund (ALF).

ALF is money allocated to universities to provide financial assistance to students who successfully demonstrate financial hardship during their studies. To be eligible to apply you must be classed as a 'home student', i.e. not classified as 'international' or 'overseas'.

The Access to Learning Fund is an umbrella fund and includes the following sub-funds.

  • Access to Learning Fund
    A hardship fund to assist with living costs for full-time students and course related costs for part-time students.
  • Additional Fee Support Scheme
    A top up scheme to assist low income, part-time undergraduate students with tuition fees.
  • Emergency Loans & Short term loans
    Emergency Loans are available if there has been a delay in the first instalment payment of statutory support funding.
    Short Term Loans are available where statutory funding cannot be accessed due to a  previous loan default.
  • Childcare Grant Scheme
    A contribution to childcare costs for eligible part-time undergraduate students.
  • Summer Support Fund
    A hardship fund to provide financial help over the summer vacation period for eligible non final year, full-time students.

The University's Student Financial Advisers are able to advise on all aspects of student funding including: statutory funding entitlements, state benefits, other sources of  funding available and debt management.
