Dr Stephen Fagbemi's profile
Dr Stephen Fagbemi was born in Oba-Ile, Ondo State, Nigeria, and ordained in the Anglican Church of Nigeria, after his theological education at Immanuel College of Theology, Ibadan.
He is an old student of St John's College, Nottingham and Nottingham University from where he obtained his theology degree. He gained his PhD degree in theology from Kent University, Canterbury.
Dr Fagbemi has worked in parishes in Nigeria both as a lay and ordained minister. He also worked in a parish in Sittingbourne, Kent before moving to Sunderland University to become the Co-ordinator of Chaplaincy Services and Anglican Chaplain, and a member of the clergy team at Sunderland Minster.
He is a member of both Tyndale Fellowship of Biblical and Theological Research and European Association for Biblical Studies. His academic interest is in Biblical Studies, especially New Testament Interpretation and Applied Theology. Among his publications are:
- Who are the Elect in 1 Peter? A Study in Biblical Exegesis and its Application to the Anglican Church of Nigeria, New York, Peter Lang, 2007 and
- A Living Faith, Ibadan, Scripture Union, 1997.
Dr Fagbemi is an advocate of Practical Christianity who believes in the power of prayer and the move of the Holy Spirit. He loves meeting people and is a good listener who is always willing to support and help people. He meets with students and staff regularly.
He lives in Sunderland with his wife and two boys. He enjoys Christian music and singing, classical music, traditional hymns and chants and dancing. Although he is a football fan, he is not a fanatic. He enjoys 'pounded yam' as his special Nigerian meal. He is very proud of his roots: he is *Ejioba omo olale, omo ajigbagba urin, omo o ro sumogun sairedan. Omo oberu ko sa'yo.
